Does anyone remember Public Safety films? Some of them scared the **** out of me when I was a kid in the late 70s/early 80s. I particularly remember the lad throwing the frisbee and it landing on a pylon, and also the geezer who stars in dinnerladies who tries to entice a young schoolgirl into his car with the promise of sweets. If I recall correctly, there were two different ads, the one where the girl says no and the other where she agrees to get into the car. Unpleasant, to say the least. Anyone else remember them?

Scary but in a fascinating way. Makes you wonder though, just how many people were there throwing frisbees or flying kites near pylons in the 70s/80s? Was it an especially popular past time?

and who can forget the story of Robbie who played on the railway lines and had his promising football career cut short by the 8.42 to Bristol?

i must've seen that 10 times during my schooling. if only i could remember some maths or english as well as i remember that video.

You can view them on

Fanastic link cruthinboy. I particularly like the 'Don't Run' ad. Sound advice ofr us all.
Thanks pigface, have you checked out some of the old ads on it too? I like that "Old Fashioned Girl" (Roses/Quality Street) - real 80s girls - hated those type of girls then .. quite fancy them now!

In fact it's Dairy Box. Do they  still exist?

..I loved the " Charlie Says " series of films, trivia fact for you Kenny Everet did the voice of Charlie..

...the ones that scared the bejeebies outta me were the one with the little kid running barefooted along the beach and in the foreground is a jagged broken bottle and the film stops just when the kid is about to stand on it...aaarrgh still gives me nighmares

..and the other one was something to do with the grim reaper standing by a dank and scary pond, to warn kids off playing near water...

...so yup they both worked, I havn't washed  drank or swam in  any water since 1977 and when I visit the beach I wear steel toe caps...

..oh yes , cruthinboy Dairy Box still exist, I sold over 2,000 of them just before mothers day ( though not to the same person you understand).. I cannot possibly comment if 80's girls still exist ...

An awful lot of Public Information Films are available on the "Charley Says..." DVD from Network Video.

Volume 2 is due for release sometime soon.
