I am delighted to be back after my unexpected but very pleasant stravaig to the East Neuk, a calm yet mysterious place full of artists and small people in wet suits.
I will, however, resist giving a talk on my experiences there.
Any other volunteers for tonight's entertainment should report to a Committee member at their convenience.
Prizes so far for tonight's raffle include :
four socks, two pink two blue
a roll of elastoplast
a tin of chopped tomatoes
and six safety pins
I should also say that, Hurricane Irene permitting, I am off to Massachusetts on Monday to see the son-and-heir (and the Kentucky fiddler). Lordalex and I will not be returning for 3 weeks, so I would be obliged if Mamyalynne or alexanderd or any other club stalwarts would fill the breach. I'll leave the keys in their usual place and look forward to regaling you all with tall tales of the goings on in the Wild West when we return.
Not as unspoiled as it used to be, alba, but still pretty good. In fairness, there were not huge numbers of people there and it was a lovely weekend in high season.
There are some new developments but I think most of them would be described as 'sympathetic'.
Rental prices for holiday flats/cottages seemed astronomical, though, which might have explained the dearth of people.
The East Neuk is my old stomping ground - did you know that the Crail market square was modelled on and is the same size as that of Frankfurt. The thought that Crail would become the princiapl port to Scotland to serve St Andrews and Falkland Palace....
well it is almost two squares with the line of buildings in the middle. I love some of the local architecture (and like St A, there is a French influence on some of the buildings).
Didn't try either, I'm afraid. Ate in teh Ship in Elie which was pretty good.
I think the Peat Inn may have changed hands...don't hear so much about it now.
Hope I,m not too late. Just been out for an Indian meal. A large Cracked Pane will help my digestion. For the riffle I can offer a pair of elastic stockings (one careful owner) and half a bottle of Cobra.
Evening milady, glasd to see tou again, evening clubbers. For the waffle I have halof a bag og ericaceous compost and a pair of scarlet braces. Looking forward to tonight's tailcock, what isit please. Some volley vaunts would be appreciated. Not eaten yet this evening.
Depressed weather as Lady A visited the Neuk
New homes mushrooming since her last visit
First homes and pipe dreams for some
Under the grey sky the river cleanses
Carries the ferry to port
Bringing AB visitors and suspended exiles
Who glimpse heaven then gather bags
Ready to land safely on Fife’s shores
Without sun’s blessing
Soft Castle landscape is needed
She is not let down
Hedgerows throw up
Sunshine Daisy yellow
Sharp Giveup green
Puddles reflect Alba red umbrellas
And a child’s Wellingtons
Next time perhaps Lady A's mental picture
Of blue harbour white houses
The familiar postcard scene
Will say hello
But today in the Club drizzle
She is rewarded just the same
The Mamya's mantle fringed golden
Is seen in all its Chatterbank splendour
