failed mot on dirt mark on numberplate...
the man told me they cant be fixed and itd need replacing, but i have removed the dirt an also some of the yellow has gone...can i just repaint the area - underneath the perspex and between the plastic backing?
i have yellow acrylic paint...it doesnt quite match but i can mix it until it does and make it look almost unnoticable...(i am an artist etc so will do a good job).
it is only a small mark (size of say a 50p) and doesnt really obscure or change any numbers ...its basically a W with a sort of line underneath coming from the righthandside 'V' to the bottom...so is not remotely confusing (was a bit pissd off that he failed me on it actually, fair enough if a P looks like an R or a V looks like an N or something...as he mentioned speed cameras etc...but this isnt the same...but hey ho)
will this be acceptable? the only reason i can see would be that the paint i have is not reflective...
any thoughts...
cheers

i could get a new one at some point but right now i cant...fixing all the issues on the mot is so far going to cost me, along with the test, about £100
i just want to know if itd pass the test

No help to you, but there are worse sillier things to fail on - like having an air freshener hanging from the mirror, and which can easily be removed. I didn't know it would fail on that, and thanks to them not pointing it out I had to rebook the test after removal. OK, it didn't cost me extra for the test, but it cost me extra in time and trouble having to go back!!!

yes puternut thats what i said, i wondered if that would be the main issue...
that link is not my question by the way...but there was a nail in my tyre too, and passed on that ...they noted it and the guy even said i could leave it if i wanted, but to beware that if it fell out the tyre would go down...
it failed on a dead bulb and a tyre that had a bulge....thankfully easily fixable
