----- Well folks I'm back but Just. I went to see my surgeon for my 6 week check-up on the 16th Nov. He found I had an irregular heartbeat and said he was addmitting me so there and then I was back in the Cardiac Care Unit.
My heart rate was 144. it should have been half that he said I was a poorly lady. They hooked me up to a heart monitor, oxygen, put me on an Insulin pump. During the night I flat lined for 5 secs. when I opened my eyes I thought I was in a scene from ER.
Next day I was back in the op theatre having a Cardioversion (3 electric shocks to the heart) this was supposed to have put things right. "Didn't work" other precedures were talked about but all considered too risky. I've been put on a shed load of drugs now. I've been put on 'Warfarin' & the thought of it scares me half to death. They monitered me for another 5 days and now have discharged me with an appt to see me in a month.
I now have to struggle with this drug regime it seems for the rest of my life. I have still been left breathless which is distressing. I have to exercise more and lose some weight they tell me.
In between all this I'm supposed to have a life.
How absolutely dreadful for you, poor you a very frightening experience to go through and to face up to now. I do hope things improve greatly for you, I can imagine how you must be feeling. Big hugs to you that you pick up and feel a lot better soon.
Jemisa this sounds like my funny turn a few months back, Atrial Fibrilation. My heart rate was 168 when I was rushed into hospital and kept in for 11 days.Am now on warfarin and various other drugs, please dont worry about the warfarin its only adrug to thin your blood after all. The drugs are doing there job and I feel fine most of the time now just the occasional "off-day" shen I really cant be bothered to do anything as I am too tired.
Good luck for the3 future, I am sure you will soon be fine
regards
alex
Well hello there! Sounds like you've had a right old time of it. Hopefully the tablets do their work and get you on an even keel before too long.
Best wishes to you.
Hi Jem, a bit of an ordeal, it will take a while for you to settle down, getting the right dose of warfarin ect. MrAsk has been through that, the electro-cardio thing didn't reset his heartbeat either. He's going to the Warfarin clinic every so often to have his dosage checked. Tell your doc if you continue to feel breathless, there are other tablets to try. Weight loss does help, I'm running out of diet ideas though.
Welcome back Jem, sorry to hear of your health problems, but remember, you are among friends here!..........try not to let the drugs regime stress you out!.......if you need a chat, you have lots of friends here!...........x
Hi Jemisa - sorry to hear of your health probs. Just to reassure you, my Mum and brother have suffered with AF for many years, my brother for nearly 30 years and he keeps very well on Warfarin, he has to have his INR levels checked frequently (just a needle prick to his finger) but otherwise he's fine. It may take some time to get used to having to check what medication mustn't be taken with Warfarin - there are quite a few, especially cold remedies which he finds frustrating and dental treatment can be a bit of a problem if he has a tooth out (Warfarin thins the blood so he bleeds a lot and has quite a few nose bleeds too) but otherwise he leads a very busy and otherwise healthy life. All the best Jem :)
Take it easy for a while Jemisa...let your body adjust to the new meds.....
Just build up your activity generally and try to eat smaller portions for a while... it will take time but will be safer to build up gradually. It may be once you are a little fitter more treatment options would be available
