The clue is "Sink on the Thames" (7) - the answer is a place name, somewhere (right across England) between the latitudes of Bedlington and Washington (UK). Help, please.

Are you sure they mean England, and not the UK? I suggest the answer, in that case, is Belfast - a type of sink and a warship now moored on the Thames in London. Sorry I have only just spotted your question.
