Hi i want to upgarde my dell optiplex 755
intel core 2 duo E4500 2.19ghz processor
3x 1gb ddr2 ram
1x 320gb harddrive
275w dell power supply
I want to stick a Asus HD 5450 in to my pci-e x16 port, the ATI site says that it requires a minimum of a 400w psu (power supply) my supply gives only 275w now i have used extreme power supply calculator to find the amount of power necessary to power my computer with the new graphics card.
The results are that a reccomended 247w power supply is required, i have also asked questions on paltalk and yahoo answers but get nothing but conflicting answers.
I have concidered buying the PNY NVIDIA GeForce 8400 GS PCI-E Graphics Card - 512MB that says it requires a reccomended 300w psu would this be better.
I have run this card through the calculator and get a reccomended 273w power supply.
Hi, there are no power supplys that fit my computer.
As its a sff desktop and has a very small space for psu and the only way i can put even the smallest psu in is to remove the dvd drive and i need it so please can you tell me if it will be ok in my current one
Making some guesses (as you haven't given full details of your system - including its age) I get a PSU requirement of somewhere between 292 and 381 watts.
Personally, I'd go with the manufacturer's recommendation. You could always buy a new case with a 400w supply, and rehouse it.
The 755 is a small form factor desktop and very tight inside. The PCI slots are only half height so the card you want might not even fit at all.
Dell power supplies are not standard form factor. The 755 PSU has a particularly odd shape. Even the connectors to the mother board and drives might not be standard. I remember one model where they reversed two pins and fitting a stand supply was a disaster.
High powered video cards usually have a separate power supply connection because the motherboard slot cannot handle the current. Some even have two connectors.
I think you should be looking a building a machine from scratch.
