Cancer- maggies centre x
23 Answers
Inspired by a chat on my previous post, i would just like to recommend a charity called maggies centre.
I was lucky enough to visit maggies during my training....it was a little haven and just casting my mind back i thought id recommend the place to anyone who has a relative suffering from cancer or who is suffering themselves. Patients and relatives are both welcome. They offered a range of treatments like massage, head scarf tying, meditation and it was like a big family of like minded people.
They made healthy soups and folk just came in and made a wee cuppa and it was all free. I spoke to folk who went there...who felt that after hospital treatment they were left feeling quite alone and they found maggies centre so helpfull. There was also tai chi and scrapbooking amongst the activities.....
I have never suffered such an illness but have had family members and i wish i knew of a place like this at the time.....
So anyway heres a link.....Lots of love...tinks xxx

Tinks, these small and often largely unrecognised centres do so much good it is important to shout about them. As you know I have lost someone very dear to me to this horrid disease - many local facilities were available and the help at the Christie Hospital was amazing. I went to somewhere similar when I was at college. We went to Rachel House which is a children's hospice and they offer respite to the families that use it. It was a fantastic place to visit but also very heartbreaking.
You should look into volunteering a few days a week or something? I was going to get in touch with Rachel House but then got offered my job so was unable to do it. It would be such a rewarding experience :)
Oh and I agree... AB at it's best!! :D

I have just completed a course of chemotherapy and my seat overlooked a Maggie's Centre. I haven't yet visited it but am comforted to know that it is there in case of need and support; they do excellent work.
Many of the Centres have been awarded major architectural awards.
I am very heartened by the generosity of the AB donor.

We don't have one of those in Yorkshire, sadly. We do have a fantastic one of these though:
