Why are we there
seeing as how more soldiers are being killed by those they are supposed to trust, why are we still there. Whatever the rights and wrongs our troops being in a foreign land, and i sincerely wish that we had never become involved, more of our servicemen are being killed by those trained by them come the transition, handover. Can we not move out sooner than later. This time it was a policeman.

Not one of the Bas**ds can be trusted, they should string this killer up for all to see.

Very difficult one that. I think you will find many servicemen still want to finish the job or their collegues that have perished will have died in vain.
One has to get this in perspective too. Considering the amount involved these incidents sre thsnkfully few and far between.
As for not wanting us there I dont believe it is true for all. Many are thankfull but silent often due to possible reprisal.

According to the last thing i heard a few days ago, from a military guy who was commenting on the John Behari (spelling ?) being the youngest person to get the VC , " blah blah all our troops are doing a great job in protecting the Afghanishitstan people "
So now you know what we are still doing there !

That killer is probably representing the view of the average Afghan. They really hate our guts and would like to see the back of us. Even the Taliban are Afghans.
Imagine a foreign power intervening between the Protestants and Catholics in Northern Ireland disrupting their way of life and telling them what to believe. The number of British soldiers killed in that conflict was huge when we know peace could only come from the two sides talking to each other.

i have read through the replies, no one seems to have a clear cut answer.
If we are hated, and i agree that there must be some who do, then why haven't we cleared out, and left them to it. If we continue to train Afghan military and they then in turn, turn on our soldiers why do we stay.
It seems foolish beyond words to stay where we are not wanted.
As to oil, that is trotted out every time, if that is the case, we didn't need to invade, just trade.

I gave you the clearcut answer as stated by a member of the military.

I noted my spelling as maybe not correct, i dont have time to sit here and check everything i spell, obviously you do.
If i was filling out an official form etc I would check my spelling, but this only and online forum....get over it

rudeness doesn't get anyone anywhere. I asked a simple question, no need for these sorts of comments. I mentioned the soldiers name because first he is a decorated war hero and one of the few VC holders of recent days.
Can tell what you really think if you call them this, unless it's a mistake.
Afghanishitstan people

no mistake at all, I have no interest in the place or its people.
my only interest is in the fact our military are being killed out there for nothing except political egos.
I'm more worried about whats happening to the UK, thats my priority, I live here.

Tony problem is many are ordinary Afghanis who just want to get on with their lives, and are effectively caught in the crossfire. Perhaps some will say well we shouldn't be there, agreed, and that we won't have made any difference to the people, also agreed, so why are we there, and please it can't only be about oil.
