I believe the answer is TITAN (sounds like TIGHTEN), but what's the connection with "as far as we've got" as the rational part of the clue?

These were all sent to the Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, over 7 years ago where they were scanned, together with thousands of others, before being transferred to disc, then loaded on board before launch.
