Rugby World Cup Final on the telly, and there's cheerleaders!
What's the point of that?

Nothing against cheerleading specifically, it just seems so wrong for the sport of rugby.

At the same time, I'm defeating my question considering there's attractive women in between the rounds of boxing and leading darts players onto the stage.
(Not at the same time I presume)

This is league, not union, which is a bit more razmatazz in the American fashion.
All part of a successful attempt to boost attendances.
Because rugby league, unlike rugby union, needs something to excite the crowd and keep them warmed up, hence the totty on show, waggling their botties and butties.
excuse me alba i just need to ask DTC how his cold is?

LJ, ask away my dear xxxx

I'd also like to ask DT if he managed to get the boifday pressie he was shopping for earlier?
feeling okay, Lady J, no temp, just tight in the chest. Due out this evening for a birthday dinner, just hope that the batteries hold up and that reminds me, must call the taxi co....

Thanks for asking though and, alba, for her blessings to invade the thread.
Rugby League has been professional for the past 50 years thereabouts and was and is the "working man's Rugby"

Union is just a newby re. professionalism and is the "educated man's" Rugby and doesn't sit well with cheerleaders.

I like both, but prefer Rugby League.
I was taught that Rugby League was a man's game, and Rugby Union was for big boys.............
Yep - some cornish oyster candles and a christmas dec. Gill (the boithday gal) - when she was young, her Mum always bought the Xmas tree on her day and that is one of the things they are doing today - I couldn't find a Lancashire Heeler decoration (their new dog who is a lovely small dog and normally I don't like small ones but 'Dino' is rather cute). I have found a really nice hand made pottery dog though (with perky ears) and Lady J probably knows the shop, The Guild of Ten.....
craft........for years, when Rugby Union was basically a kicking game it was known by the League fans as the "kick and cheer" game.
So why do a lot of top rugby players come across to play Union - it's more physical and demanding with the scrums and phase plays.
thanks alba. very kind of you.
DT......what are you on?.......;-)
We'd rather follow Union, any day :-)
thanks for lettign me know. yes i know the shop you mean. some nice stuff in there and some of it technically good but boring in context. have a good time this evening.

At the moment, I'm undecided between preferences for league or union, still, it's a bunch of guys looking good, doing manly things and I love the Haka :-D
Me too, boxie.

Ibuprofen and Scotch or Diplomatica rum later, Sqad.
Totty, dtc? Hate to burst your bubble, but they're about 15 years of age. They were in front of us in Cardiff.
DT...only recently have a lot of League boys come over to Union as in the past, many Union boys crossed over to league........Martin Offiah, Jonathan Davies and many others, mainly backs...Tait of Scotland and many Welshman that i have forgotten their names....Lewis Jones.
Question Author
as this is league, not union, it explains lot why it's played at a football ground :-)
