And it's raining, of course.

Decided to hang some pictures, so watch out for power cuts all over the region as I blow the national grid. Now come on, it must be possible to drill a hole in a wall without hitting a power cable, but I may not manage it. Do those wire and pipe detector gadgets work ? I've got one here but have difficulty with the instructions. What's the German for "don't" ? And drill? Whoever built this place made interior walls of something harder than granite, that laughs at any kind of masonry nail. May see you later. Much later, but at least I'll go out with a bang!

Have a good day !

Morning fred. It looks like an exciting, or traumatic day for you. A hammer drill with a masonry bit, rawlplugs and screws or hooks and you're sorted. Those gadgets do work. They are a basic metal detector. You are unlikely to find a plastic pipe buried in the wall.

Happy picture hanging! :o}
morning wbm and fred good luck fred with your DIY not bad here at the mo!
Morning bernie. Not raining here at the moment, but it's all wet enough anyway. No wind either...yet.
having a new boiler and a radiator fitted next week £1600 ( b.gas quoted 4400) thieves!! don't know where they get their prices from! having cooker repaired tomorrow £100 all pay out so far this year!
BG always have been thieving gits mate. When we bought a new gas cooker, we looked at a nice one at BG. £840. The same one in a small local shop, £260.

I don't think they are on the same planet as the rest of us.
yep, got to know a local boiler service here in bean Kent, know the 2 blokes well now, have used them a few times and have told other people to use them as well, its good when you find someone decent and they do a great job too!
It is indeed mate. I always use local shops and local people when I can. You do become friends and you are assured of good service.

Just been quoted £12,200 including VAT for a complete installation of oil fired central heating, including oil tank, for this place. Well, I am rapidly running out of furniture to burn. l love how these people do quotes. Just parts and then labour; no itemisation of parts, like all proper garages do with individual prices, just 'parts'. Might be worthwhile, as I usually do, to ask what the parts cost. I may have a quote for a boiler at twice the proper price !
no doubt Fred they all try it on!!
It's raining. How unusual!

That's a lot of loot fred. Are you on gas? I have gas central heating. A small multipoint unit on the kitchen wall provides all the heating and hot water required. Can't beat it in my opinion.

No gas, boaty, unless I have Calor Gas. Ironic really, when a gas main runs past this village. I think that may be for North Sea gas, but it's still gas. I have 3,000 sq ft to warm up and the quote may not be wildly out, but it is still worth having a nibble at the price, methinks.
Too right it is mate. You don't get if you don't ask. That's a lot of space to heat.
Morning Fred xx Boaty xx cuddles xx
