I need to get my hands on some Tartan ribbon. Finding a site that does it is easy enough, but how on earth do I know if it is the right tartan?
The particular name I need has about 50 different tartans associated with it. The Scottish Register doesnt really help because the search results dont tell you which clan.
Any ideas, please?
(PS I cant ask a) because the person who would know best is dead and b) cos it is a surprise).

Prior to this, it is believed that clansmen were known to wear variety of different setts and the weave of cloth tended to be dictated by the custom of a particular area, rather than by clan or family affiliation.
There's a lot of kidology around tartan and you could spend a long time in conversation with earnest professionals trying to find your answer.
