Canned laughter used mainly in Sitcoms I can ignore most of the time ,the one I can't bare is the Clapping and cheering on the X Factor ,clapping and cheering whilst the performer is struggling to stay in tune ,I cannot imagine that the cheering etc goes on live,I would imagine the laughter /cheering and clapping are added on once the show has been cut into the correct timing slots and if you listen it is mostly the same cheering, clapping track that is played all the way through the track.

In a Mo, add laughing and clapping in your own time please .

hurrah,,,,more. ;-)
ABers raved about 'The Big BangTheory' so I thought I'd give it a whirl. I could only abide 5 minutes of it, so obvious and all pervasive was the 'canned' laughter.
Generally I dislike canned laughter unless the joke it's laughing at is actually funny. In Big Bang Theory for example, it's just not, so the laughter is annoying. In other shows that are actually funny you notice it less as you are actually laughing at the same time.
I notice the pointless laughing and clapping on XFactor (not sure if it's canned) but I don't really notice it on sitcoms.

Love Big Bang :-)
the canned laughter can be a bit disconcerting if you're wondering why everyone is laughing
I avoid it completely...After not having had TV for a while all the shows mentioned seem trite and moronic.
Years ago, my favourite comedy program on TV was "Mash", and I never missed an episode if I could help it. But when I fist went to America, in 1978, I saw Mash on the TV there and it contained canned laughter, which completely spoilt it for me. My American friends couldn't see anything wrong with, as all their programs always had this false laughter. But I still hate it.
Big Bang is bang on.

Canned laughter becomes annoying when you are having a cat nap on the sofa.
Sitcoms and canned laughter? Canned stand either of them.
Canned laughter drives me nuts, Himself likes American shows and it's even worse on there.

I you listen to X Factor for example The cheering when an act reaches a certain part of a song is so false and I would suggest is taped otherwise why would an audience rise up each time, with applause and cheering, this is the type of applause given when a Star act sings a hit song that the audience recognizes, not when some wannabe manages to reach the end of the first line,
If it is obtrusive yes. If low level and background so I don't notice, then no. If the comedy was any good it wouldn't need it though.
