Just treated myself to a slice of what I thought was healthy Scottish Isles Organic Salmon... However the label also says Farm Reared. How can organic salmon be farm reared??
So many people equate Organic with wild or free range -it has nothing to do with it. Wild salmon are often riddled with worms and exposed to all sorts of pollutants so I would always opt for farmed salmon given a choice. Organic means the animal has not been treated with nor consumed anything treated with chemicals, though can have had plant based medication.

divebuddy -that's why 'organic' isn't that good for you when it comes to animal and fish products - no parasitic control.I would have thought on a normal fish farm they would be controlling parasites from the start via the food
Have to agree about wild salmon re. taste .. I've have been out in an open boat and set nets off Malin Head. We caught about 200 salmon that night.
The following morning we had salmon and scrambled egg for breakfast and I will never forget it.
Ever since then I have eaten salmon on various occasions .. it has never come close taste wise.
Salmon in pens cant feed naturally so they are fattened up on fishmeal pellets. This directly affects the taste .. badly !
