I like canals and streams, they should exist to be enjoyed.
anyway aren;t canals still used ?
How do they know a secret plan anyway. Where is the evidence ? Millions of Britons would not improve fitness, they'd ignore the paths and be glad the danger of hitting a cyclist on the road is lower. It'd be expensive and probably not financially justifiable unless it was thought to enhance the country so much it was worth paying extra for.

With all these floods, shouldn't we, instead, be digging huge lagoons to catch river overspill, more ditch systems to give floods alternative routes around built-up areas? All the spoil could be made into heaps and turfed over, as livestock refuges or levees and so on. We've seen the side-effects of recent flood protection measures; let's see them try something new.
