Squirrel Digits ?

I was astonished when I read somewhere that squirrels have four fingers on each hand but have five toes on each foot.
Is this true ?
Its been driving me nuts!

And they're remarkably light fingered when they get anywhere near a bird table with peanuts on it.

I also didn't realise that the reds molted their ear tufts once a year either, that would help explain why, you don't always see them.
