The Stones have gone back to their roots with their new album.

The following occurs to me -

The Stones started off as teenagers worshiping the old blues masters, now they are the old blues masters.

The strength of Mick Jagger's vocals utterly belies his age, and we get to hear again what an amazing and under-rated harp player he is.

The cruel tragedy that in the sleeve notes, there is no mention whatsoever of Brain Jones, one of the original champions of blues music in this country, and without whom there would never have been a Rolling Stones.

They got people in America listening to their own roots music and they rediscovered Howlin Wolf, Muddy Waters and BB King.
I love the Stones, however the original versions are far superior, IMOHO.
I too love the Stones, Mick Jagger is BRILLIANT !
I take it im on my own in thinking they're an embarrassment now? Yes they were brilliant when they started and for a good few years afterwards but there comes a time when you really can't pull off the old rock n' roll angst when you're chugging on Sanatagen between songs.

BOO - have you seen The Stones live?

Trust me, you don't pull crowds the size they do year in year out unless you are doing the business as a live show - and they do!

Nope, I haven't, though I don't doubt their aged groupies enjoy hearing songs from 50 years ago again.

//I don't doubt their aged groupies enjoy hearing songs from 50 years ago again. //

that's a little unfair - their last album of entirely new material was as recent as 2005, which reached no2 in the UK, no3 in the US and was no1 in 8 European nations.
Mick Jagger can still move like a young man and has the same figure as when he was a young man. I love watching him, but when I was younger I didn't like them ! I have friends who have been to concerts and they are full of praise after they have been

I have, twice, and they are an amazing live show, hence the massive success of their tours. Try and see them, it can't be too much longer before they give it up.
lol, I appreciate im the only one here who thinks they should have given up some 30 years ago.

I'll pass on the concert offer if you don't mind Andy, I love seeing old footage of old Stones, when they were still young and could (IMHO) pull off the whole rock 'n roll thing, I prefer to still think of them that way :-)
I'm not a Stones fan and consequently haven't seen them perform.

I have however seen Ronnie Wood with Mick Hucknall and was astounded by RW's energy.

Please note I attended under sufferance........
B00, the thing is, their latest album is blues songs - back-to-their-roots stuff from before they were a rock group, back when they were a blues band, which is how I first saw them.

I would mostly agree that there's not a lot they've done since about 1980 that I'd go out for. But I've seen a couple of their recent shows and their 1960s and 1970s material is still great in performance.

I`ve walked past this place so many times and it was only last year that someone told me it used to be the Station Hotel where the Stones played their first gig https://www.onekewroadrichmond.co.uk/
