Garden Plants Recommendations

I have a paved back 'garden' and I have decided I want some potted plants dotted around. I don't mind flowering or green plants that are suitable for outdoors and easy care.
What do you recommend? Please note,I have not got green fingers and can barely recognise a weed!!!

Gazanias are low maintenance and love a sunny spot in a pot recommended.

Oh Fuschias are good too. Get some Lobelia for cluster and background.

Mix flowers with edible plants like herbs....rosemary, thyme, mint, wild garlic, sage are easy grow. Nasturtiums are edible and colourful. They all flower but are a great source of flavour too. Nothing better to show off with...some home grown organic herbs. Bung theem in and let them do their own thing!

Don't forget to place saucers under your pots, or else all the soil will be washed out of the pots and it will make a real mess of your paving.

Phormiums, Fatsia japonica, Some of the hardy palms such as Chamaerops humilis, Aucuba crotonifolia, Japanese maples (don't like being dried out or cold winds) some of the grasses are nice...miscanthus sinensis 'morning light' is nice. Nandina domestica is another nice plant for a pot

You could try 'ground-cover' plants for easy care, some like sun some like shade. one that will form a mat in most situations is Symphytum ibiricum, it will out-compete most weeds once the ground is cleared.

I've got a nice variegated standard holly bush they're very hardy and take a lot of killing. I also really like blue agapanthus. Be careful which pots you buy as they are not all frost proof.

Agree with mallyh. Herbs attract bees, smell good and are useful for cooking.

We have cotton lavender in some large pots. It can survive not being watered for 6 weeks whilst we are away on holiday; at the end of the year hack it back to almost nothing and it comes back again.

I love begonias and geraniums mixed with lobelia.

I only grew it once but there was a plant called 'love lies bleeding' it was beautiful a real talking point must get it again perhaps this year.

I agree that herbs would be a good choice if you want to grow your plants in pots.
Lavender, Rosmary and variegated Sage are ones that I would choose, chives can be a bit invasive and spread to other areas of the garden.

Spiky plants may be problematic, if close to walkways.

Some lovely suggestions here. At the moment have 5 biggish pots to fill.
