What a weird (and pretentious) list.

I consider myself well and widely read, but barely scratch the surface of this lot.

I've read and can recommend three (Garp, The Little Prince and Tipping Point)

Was forced to read one (Crime & Punishment) for A level - and enjoyed it more than I expected.

Started and abandoned one (White Teeth) - jesus it does go on ... and on

But most of the rest seem to fit into the "books to pretend to be reading on public transport to impress people" category.

Anyone read any/many of them?

Think i'll stick with Stephen King and Douglas Lindsay, ta very much.
What....no Enid Blyton, Malcolm Savile or Arthur Ransome ?....not much of a ruddy list then is it !
Read 4!!! I also thought myself well read!
Just please tell me Tipping Point wasn't written by Ben Shepperd. (sp)

No doubt there will be some who go out to buy several just to display on their coffee table.
Never even heard of any of them much less read them!
What happened to the Biggles series? I loved them.
Read two and flicked through a few more.
I hate these lists. Makes me not want to read the books and to unread any I might have read. :)
The only one that I have read is the Dostoyesky. I haven't heard of most of the others.
I saw the thread title in LP & instantly thought it would be what I see s-d posted as the 1st line after the link.

I've read one of them - Garp, started Crime & Punishment but got bored very quickly & of the others I've only heard of a few & intend to read none.
a lot of the earlier ones are translations
which I wouldnt recommend under most circumstances
( having read Dickens directly following Les Miz)

The others that stand out are ones - airport newsstand fodder? - that explain what Warren Buffet's teacher taught him ....
or how the Class of 79 churned out presidents and fraudsters .....in sort of equal number

may get a few tho
just done Letters from Iwo Jima - Money Niall Ferguson - and the Kings Bedpost .....
None of them beat Peter Robinson, Peter James or Martina Cole in my opinion!
by pretentious, do you just mean foreign? (The words are often coterminous.) Not many British works on the list and as others have pointed out, Enid Blyton and Captain W E Johns are much more interesting writers than any of them.
Heard of 5 of them and read none of them. No intention of changing that, either!
Read Crime and Punishment at school for English Lit,didn't enjoy it but surprised myself passing the exams, I've heard of some others but not read any of them.
I've never heard of or read any of them.
I read constantly, but none of those. I wouldn't even pick most of those up out of interest if they were in front of me.
I've heard of some but read none.
Oops, haven't read any of these books.
Heard of a couple, read, erm....none. I feel hopelessly inadequate.
I have read just 1 of those books......and I read more books a week than anyone I know.....and have done for years....oh dear.
