Chess Helper
I've been challenged to an online game of chess by an ex. I am rubbish and he is pretty good. I know I'm not going to beat him, but I don't want to look a fool. Is there an app or website that can help me with the best moves to counter his moves?
I don't want to cheat exactly. I just need a bit of help.

There are several online chess engines that you can use, in one form or another. Personally I'd suggest a better plan would be to find a fellow chess-playing friend to discuss the game with. That way you aren't finding the best moves "blind", so to speak, but with some understanding of *why* they might be the best moves. Or not.

You can get yourself one of these;
Amazon.co.uk User Recommendation
and train yourself to play against it. I have a large computer chess set, but found one of these in a charity shop in England for 99p !
You can set them to any level - I shouldn't say this, but if you set it to high, you can use the moves it recommends :0)

After a brief flirtation with online chess I abandoned it, basically it's who can cheat the best, I never used anything but my own brain power but you never know what the other person is doing. Same with pub quizzes, now a googling contest. I have a beautiful chess set and I will supply the brandy/malt to whoever wants to play me face to face.
Depends on the speed you want to play at, TTT. The two I have in mind are chessworld.net (correspondence chess) and chess.com (usually played at faster speeds, sometimes as little as a minute per game although five-ten minutes is more common). If you ever join one, let me know.
And as for a face-to-face game... well, we can but dream I suppose!

Yes it would.
