I know the two answers but I can't equate the sergeant's school's village with the toy maker.

The information is in a .pdf (one of toymaker's company documents). Try a search using his name + "obituary."

Thanks Flonska.
I went to the pdf. and found that the toymaker retired to the sergeant's village where he was ill and died having taking no part in the village's life. He was buried in the church cemetery and noboby new of his fame. Hence no connection between him and the sergeants village. This was a good search set by Mr. Faunltly

Indeed!! My experience of trying to solve the puzzles over the years reveals that Mr Fautley does include items that appear to arrive "out of left field" and although seemingly innocuous, they do require some detailed and extensive excavation of the records - not always in the obvious places, either. Fortunately, some inclusions are "red herrings" but occasionally he pulls the pin on the odd grenade and lobs it into the mix. This week being a case in point. I think the expression Mr F might use is "boomph!" - said with a slight smile on his face - no doubt?
