I know that Ive posted *similar* in the past, but I honestly don't get the TV thing?
Just had a glance through the 'peaky blinders' thread and I don't get how people get so passionate about a tv show. (similar threads about EastEnders).
Even when I DID own a TV I never got involved in the lives of fictitious characters.
I just don't get how TV can ingrate itself into peoples lives to such an extent.

I know that Ill probably be seen as one of those self righteous ''I don't own a TV'' kind of people but I honestly have never got it?
Got nothing against TV, and I do like the pictures occasionaly, but the idea of discussing TV characters baffles me!

It's a form of literature for many people. There are book clubs where people meet and discuss the plots/characters of books, TV is the same, just a different platform.

Apart from the mind numbing examples you cited, there is also science, nature, news and current affairs, dramas and films etc etc.
And of course, Songs Of Praise.

I don't get how and why people go to football matches and watch 90 minutes of what I call a 'bore fest'.

I don't get as involved as many do. The people who notice the smallest detail that is wrong like someone wearing a watch in one scene and not another.

I do have the TV on most of the time though even though I'm not really watching it.

I only watch 24 hr News, Sky or BBC and a few Quiz Shows, plus Rugby as and when, got no interest in Soaps etc.

Television is a fabulous medium - it can be whatever you want it to be.

Entertaining, informative, exciting and so much more.

You wouldn't ask 'Why do people read books?' in such a broad sense without specifying a bit more.

In recent years I have noticed that people rave about certain TV series which makes me think that the quality of TV has improved in this country. Long may it continue (have you seen some of the dross that is on TV in other parts of the world)?

Just never understood the appeal of TV myself. Certainley not knocking it.
