What a shame. Since Sean Newsom took over setting this puzzle, he has ruined it with his oh-so-obvious clues, usually in the form of puns, which are totally unnecessary as the clues are meant to be in the references to the places he visits along the way.

Today is no different: he uses the 'not unusual' quote not once, but twice! Groan. And then the 'pits' reference at the end - hardly any effort required to solve it. I wonder why Chris Fautley stopped doing it, he set some great hunts over many years.
