If you could go back to a particular period of time or decade where would you travel back to?

Personally I would travel back to my childhood of roughly aged 10 to 20 if I had to pick a decade.

Which would have been 1979 to 1989..

But to be honest I had a fabulous childhood, so its probably also 1974 to 84 in terms of decades.

I actually am old enough to remember the blazing hot summer of 76, I was 7 years old but remember it well. It was like living in Spain all summer.

So if you could turn back time, where would you go?

Same age as you and agree the 70's were good times. I'd like to pop back as an adult and spend a few days there; but I enjoy modern life too and wouldn't want to give it up for long.

Back to my my 20s...so 1967-77. I was carefree, independent, had some money to spend.

The 80s, the greatest decade of them all, best films best music, TGL running the country. Wonderful times.

For those unaware, TGL = The Ghastly Lady

I'm a year younger than you, renegade, but I just don't remember that hot summer of 1976.

I think I'd like to have been around in the 60s. I love the music and fashion from that time.

plucked up enough copurage to admit to voting Labour yet canary? Shame you have to hijack this thread with your cobras.

TGL "The Grotesque Lady"

You were the hijacker Toratoratora, bringing politics into it, together with one of your childish abbreviations.

1980s

I remember the hot summer of 1976, I was 9 and on holiday in cornwall at a place call Hayle

I remember the 76 hot summer. I came as close as I want to of dying of thirst! I was 13 and we were on the DOE award scheme expedition on the Purbecks. None of us had enough water and we were just wilting with thirst. Now I know it's not comparable but remember those old films when they are in the desert close to death and they come across an oasis? Well our "oasis" was this farm house. We knocked on the door and a little old lady answered we begged for water! and she came out with a steel bucket and various cups and ladles. To this day it was the most delicious thing I'd ever tasted. After a few refills of the bucket and our water bottles we were re energised and made it to the camp. We could see Corfe castle as the sun set behind it wonderful memory.

...so yes I have good memories of the 70s too but I count the 80s as my golden decade.

Has to be the 70s for me. Young, extremely fit, extremely healthy, carefree. Queen released their debut album in '73 and i also got into Sabbath, Floyd, Zep, Yes, Genesis and Lizzy in the early 70s.

3 tours of Ulster, proving to myself i was a 'proper' squaddie - even on my 3rd tour in civvies on the Int Sect. We always wondered how we would react to the demands of Ulster and most of us were q

Had enough money to buy whatever i wished - even after sending a ton to my English bank account each month - and only myself to answer to as to how i spent it.

Typing too fast, must have caught the wrong button.

2nd para ends; "and most of us were quite pleased with how we did."

The 80s were good, too, but they brought responsibilities in the shape of my children which obviously curtailed my carefree spirit. Wouldn't swap my kids for anyone else's though.
