Have no sympathy with Russia and there appalling actions in Ukraine, but cannot understand how we in the west are openly supporting Ukraine by supplying arms and imposing severe sanctions against Russia, yet Biden is saying that if China supports Russia there will be consequences. How is it o.k for the west to support Ukraine and yet the east not support Russia. No abuse please just hopefully point out what I am missing!
Because its Russia doing the invading not the other way round? Biden would am sure want sanctions against any country not just China that sends arms to support them destroying Ukraine
But playing the 'devil's advocate ' here, Putin believes that Ukraine is Russian and he could not run the risk of such a huge country bordering Russia joining nato. Imagine Scotland gaining independence from the UK and then deciding to join the Russain bloc. I just feel that we in the west seem to assume everything we do and say its right and everyone else is wrong. just a point of view. gulp!!
Ukraine is a free democracy, not part and parcel of Russia, so Russia's actions is unlawful, undemocratic, appalling in it's unremitting killing of ordinary citizens, and displacing millions who have fled their homeland.
'' Imagine Scotland gaining independence from the UK and then deciding to join the Russain bloc.''
I would have no problem with that. If however they decided to invade England to make as join said bloc because we used to be part of a United Kingdom...
So if Scotland was a free and democratic country and joined Russia, you are saying a uk government would have no problem with Russain arms and troops being placed at Gretna Green. again just asking, have no sympathy with Russia but for negotiations to have a successful outcome and a end to the dreadful suffering in Ukraine it must surely be acknowledged that there are two sides to every dispute.
The problem is, all I wish for is for everybody to get on, share resources and live happily ever after. Sadly, someone always needs to be bigger and better.
And that is why I don't watch the news.
Have a good day lol
Russia has borders with NATO countries - does Putin think NATO will attack Russia? What would be the point?
Ukraine is not a NATO country, Putin has invaded because he thinks it should belong to Russia lock, stock & barrel or Russia may become "infected" by democracy threatening his stranglehold on power.
Russia is the aggressor in this current conflict, it should be sanctioned and made to see that it's actions are abhorrent to everyone. I pity the Ukrainians who didn't ask for this - and are caught up in the mass genocide on their country.
You're right ozzy. I mean no offence or to try and justify the terrible suffering, its breaks my heart, that poor old lady in a shopping trolley, for gods sake what sort of a world are we living in.
A very sad one Barney.
But if people worked together it could be a very happy world.
Alas that won't happen because some wish to be the most wealthy, others wish to rule.
you are saying a uk government would have no problem with Russain arms and troops being placed at Gretna Green.

What makes you put that argument forward?
NATO hasn't got troops in the Ukraine.
Propaganda aside I doubt that ordinary Russians feel threatened by NATO or by Ukraine.
The problem here is that Putin wants to cling on to his current dictatorial system of government but it's wrong & probably won't survive long term unless he goes the way of extreme repression like China & N. Korea.
