Good day, thanks to NACW and Klazo, for your help with Chalicea’s Listener 4758. I’m stuck on some of the Across clues and would appreciate your guidance. Thanks in advance!
( In each across clue the wordplay leads to the answer with an extra letter that is not entered in the grid; these letters lead to a list of things that solvers must highlight (37 cells in total) to form a symmetrical representation of a thematic event. The Chambers Dictionary (2016) is the primary reference. )
18 Scottish drink recipe yielded cases to be reviewed (4) : ?R?P
21 Bizarre particle, hot like a mock sun (8) : P?T?T?i?
22 Husband following game dancer (5) : A???H
26 World Boxing Association adopts a full length robe (3) : ??A
37 Poor London tom; he has just one tooth (8) : MONODONT
42 Little hotel, with cunning, dims vacant internal parts (7): INNARDS

Tribulation [is singular] so can't see 'TESTS' working.
Trial could work [TRI (o)] + AL
But struggling to see how AL is times over.
Guess it's LA reversed (but still don't get it)
Can you just post the NEW letter layout for us who haven't got a copy please.

Well I didn't know that Prof M. Just looked it up [trial/trinal]
A lot of words are new to me [from tougher crosswords] But i've never come across triaal meaning three.
New to me thanks :-)
I think this would have been tough even with the grid NAC. But that's why I come on here. I like to test my knowledge and hopefully improve my crossword skills. :-)

It's a pity you haven't got the grid to see how it all works out, klazo. This one has a neat endgame (all Listener word puzzles have something extra to do after the grid's filled - that's usually the fun part).
I think you'd enjoy the puzzles, if you're ever tempted they're in The Times every saturday.

Thanks, ProfessorMaisie! Two troublesome ones…the first really archaic:
2d Someone who wrongfully takes possession of a club previously outmoded (6) :
Ends with OR… Thought "previously" suggested EX ( Had EXTORT originally…)
The second :9d obscure, indeed!
9 Tip further into peak abundance (7) :
Thought further/extra- MORE
And 3-letter mountain: ALP = PLEROMA
