More Surprising Stats As An Aside From A News Item

Following my recent post where a news item also unearthed a number of stats which surprised me (car rollovers) here is another one which informs me that 28,000 pill boxes were built here in 1940/41.

As a kid in the Forties/Fifties, I remember seeing a few, but I find this number staggering.

Quite a few were built inland not just on the coast. 

I remember, some years ago, the Imperial War Museum asking people to report the locations of any surviving pillboxes in their area, as it seems that there were no accurate records of where they'd all been built.
