We Know What We Don't Want
But what do we really want from AB, try to keep it objective and constructive
For me, I want a bit of interesting silliness, 'over the garden fence ' type gossip, concern for fellow posters, and repetitive posting even by established members reduced or removed when they are just rehashing the same arguments, or when members are asking the same sort of questions when they have no intention of paying even lip service to the answers.
It would be nice if people could set aside their long standing enmity but I am aware that human nature precludes this in many cases so maybe adopting that great English tradition of forced politeness would be a compromise.

I mean no inadvertent exclusion and there may be issues specific to other areas which will appear at intervals where I hope discussions won't break down into jingoism and nationalism for nationalisms sake.
I don't know how it would come about, I think because we had so many more members that logged in every day but in the past I always knew there would probably be at least one evening in a week when I would laugh out loud, so funny, clever and amusing were some of our posters. That NEVER happens now, hardly anyone says anything funny anymore. Even the odd witty comments we do get (and I can only think of one current poster who is consistently witty) is more than interspersed with negativity from him these days.
I don't have the skills to be funny but we have lost most of those who do or have quashed the fun out of them by removing the answers. Have to say it.
Decent debate on issues (science preferably but other subjects are fine). An absence of troll posts (especially in politics). Sensible questions that I have a decent chance of giving helpful advice on, not trivial gibberish. No repeating of the same moans & propaganda on old discredited demands). Some decent jokes. Helpful advice. Generally polite posters (one expects a bit of emotion but keep it within limits and avoid personal insults). The ability to edit one's posts to correct errors or clarify meaning. There's probably more but that's off the top of my head.

thank fekk I'm not English.
The one good thing about AB is that the OPs comments are clearly visible throughout the threads.
It would be nice if posts were clearly numbered, it would help when referring to a previous comment.
Answer removed - each should be given a reason. No necessarily specific. Sometimes it is spam and sometimes an idiotic comment. The name of the person who has their answer removed should also be given.
