He's the figurehead. He's the obvious one who's in charge of it all. Who else could the people protest to?

Question Author

15:39 the government, MPs, MEPS, local authority, civil servants, whoever deals with culverts and flood defences etc etc. Like our own monarch the King is not in charge of anything.

I think you are a bit lacking in the human nature field.

Perhaps they would be better off aiming their brick-bats at all the peeps who are saying that there would be massive droughts for the next twenty years.

He was lucky it was only dubs hitting him.

Ach,his heids probably hard as Hendersons erse ,so it widna metter.

I know people there.  The situation is dire - and that's putting it mildly.  They could probably have done without visits from royalty and dignitaries however well-meaning.  But if he hadn't gone he'd probably have been accused of not caring.  Kings and queens can't win sometimes - whatever they do.

It's an historical failure. In many places Spain's infrastucture is woefully inadequate to cope with unusual events affecting over-populated areas.

"Like our own monarch the King is not in charge of anything. "

So the actual point of them is?

"Kings and queens can't win sometimes - whatever they do."

people have turned down crowns or abdicated. they can just do that.

They've tried life without the monarchy, untitled, as has this country - and guess what?

I feel for those scuba divers searching the underground car parks today.

I am struggling to believe this is real, it seems too much like a horror film.

time to try again.

Why are they mad at the King?

Spain has never recoved from the civil war, it's still a divided country, more so than even AB !

A woman of advanced years spent 3 days trapped in a car sitting next to her dead sister-in-law.

Unthinkable !

is franco another one of those dictators you admire khandro?

That's more your style, untitled.  I don't think Khandro wants to ditch the monarchy.

I was caught in a flash flood in the Malaga region some years ago, the day we were due to fly home.  The roads were closed due to landslides, the dry riverbeds became torrents that flooded.  I don't think anyone died in that flood but it was pretty scary.  Took a couple of weeks to clean up.

Spain just isn't geared for rain, even in light rain the pavements become dangerously slippery.

neither did franco naomi... he was a monarchist.

i just ask because khandro has expressed admiration for dictatorships before (he loves tito and lee kwan yew if memory serves) so i was wondering if franco makes the cut

This is the rainy season in that area, Barry.  It often rains heavily at this time of year.
