Check the fuse in the plug.   Make sure the socket works, plug something else into it and see if that item works,  I recently had this problem and a change of HDMI lead did the trick.

Check the batteries in your remote.

What's happening?  Is there any signs of life in your tv?  Are you getting sound, is there anything at all on the screen?

What have you tried so far?

Do you watch tv through an aerial or something else?

What is the TV?

Is it just the picture or sound as well?

On the tv there are usually override buttons so try those to eliminate remote issues.

Thanks for the comprehensive answers, a process of elimination the problem turned out to be a loose plug that somehow worked its way out.
