Away from the vessel, the wind or the land.

I am thinking 'aft' but cannot find this meaning under it.

* adj. - aft -- ((nautical, aeronautical) situated at or toward the stern or tail)
* adv. - aft, abaft, astern -- (at or near or toward the stern of a ship or tail of an airplane; "stow the luggage aft"; "ships with square sails sail fairly efficiently with the wind abaft"; "the captain looked astern to see what the fuss was about")

I think the answer is OFF

Standing off = keeping away from the vessel
Off shore = away from the land
Sailing off the wind = not sailing into the wind
