Can you tell me how many letters, as I can't just recall it, but I did ask this some weeks back re: a crossword in the Daily Record & Sunday Mirror. If it comes to mind soon I'll get back to you
the only thing that comes to mind is kirk a knife worn by pipers one of my friends gave me this answer hope it fits good luck
there is a town in the Aberdeen area called maud and I seem to remember having maud as the answer to 'things that can be worn' in a quiz once. Might be worth looking into.

Sir Walter Scott refers to a Maud as being a Low Country Plaid which is a long piece of cloth a yard wide wrapped loosely round the waist.
