cats playing fetch
5 Answers
does anyone else's cat here play fetch?
max loves his hackey sack, his jangly ball and wooden kebab skewers (they're his fave) and he brings them to us for us to throw, then he fetches them and brings them back. If we're asleep, to get our attention, he'll put his toy of choice on our faces so that we'll wake up and throw it!
he plays this game very enthusiastically for hours!
never had a cat that did this before is it unusual or just that my other cats were all lazy?!

Sam loves to have things thrown in the air for him (mainly pieces of screwed up paper) which he is very good at catching between his paws but he then sits down, looks at it, then at me as if to say "well throw it again then"! He sometimes plays tennis with them too though and occassionally actually hits it back to me so we almost have a game of catch. I've been trying to think of ways to train him to fetch things but nothings worked so far! When he wants attention in the middle of the night he just jumps on my chest, hits my face with his paw and miaows!
Our last cat used to love to play "Fetch and Retrieve" but was very fussy about his chosen object. Generally he would only play with a screwed up wrapper of Cadbury's Flakey bar tied into a knot !! Perhaps it was the smell of chocolate he liked because he would play this game until he (and we) were exhausted. But throw him an ordinary piece of screwed up paper and after the second throw he would go on strike.
