That's terrible - if you have a moon shot when there is a new moon, then it might miss the Man in the moon's nose completely
and fly off into space or something !
im sorry to say tats a silly question, im sure i learned about this when i was 11, its still a moon, but because of the phases you can only see more or less of it if its waxing or waning. there will not be a greater surface area
This was of course a key logistical issue in the NASA Apollo moon missions. If you landed too close to the edge of a half-moon, you might only have a few hours before the moon simply disappeared from underneath you, leaving you floating in space with no hope of rescue.
