Small swimming organisms in old drinking water?

Hi, I found an old glass of water in our guest bedroom. It had been there for a while and looked horrible and cloudy. On closer inspection there were tiny 'tadpole' like organisms swimming about in the water. My partner says that they were airborne and came into contact with the water and took life. I think they were in the water already and grew, and my friend thinks they grew from bacteria in saliva. All I know is that they look like the aliens have reached earth. Can anyone shed some light on where the hell these things have come from? Thanks, Rebecca

It may be mosquito larvae, who breed in water and then hatch out to adults. Hence the huge amount in swampy areas.

Yeah, that's what it looks like. I've never seen what mosquito larvae look like in stagnant water! Now I know and it's disgusting!. In no time at all I would have had a mosquito/fly infestation in the house no doubt!

Thanks, Rebecca
Glad to help. I get all itchy, just looking at them. Yuk!!!
