Are integrated amplifiers interchangeable?

I have an integrated Aiwa stereo system minus the amplifier, which was stolen. The model has been discontinued so I cannot replace it from the manufacturer. I have been so far unsuccessful in finding an exact replacement. My question is, can I buy an integrated amplifier, which is a different model or make? Even if some of the functions are lost. I do realise that the connections would have to be similar. The connections on my system are small scart type. I have no idea what they are called. Thank you for any help.

You'll also have to make sure the input impedance of the amp is compatible with the rest of your system and likewise your speakers have a matched impedance to the output of the amp.

Thanks Jay70. To be compatible with the system, does the input/output impedance of the amp have to be exactly the same or are some variations allowed? If yes, what range of variations?
