Tract........Tract is a land lot + OR (other ranks-men)= tractor which is a farm vehicle

Kayakamina...you are so good at working the cryptic puzzles out. When you explain them they seem obvious sometimes, but I have to really think about some. I am relatively new to the cryptics, and find the one in the Sunday Telegraph always stumps me. Do you have any tips or is it literally practise makes perfect?! It amazes me how you and a few other regulars work them out so well! Do I just keep plugging at them?

Hi Pauline. It is mainly just practice. If you are unable to complete a puzzle always check the answers and try to figure out the logic.
I have been doing crosswords for over 60 years so I should have learned something by now!. There are also only so many ways a word can be clued so you find a certain amount of repetition.
Keep plugging and they will become easier by the day. Don't be reluctant to ask for full explanations of answers given to you . Good luck K

Thanks a lot K...wish I had a direct line to some of you...sometimes you do feel like your mithering especially when you see some of the complaints we sometimes get on here..though they are fewer than the helpful answers..thank goodness! I try not to ask too many like with The Week that I am determined to master! I tend to post when I know it's quieter. But thanks for all your help and encouragement anyway.... and sorry for using your post gco2005!
