What if the word 'toss' is a clue to an anagram? Then an angram of 'lose the' will give you HOSELET.

I found this reference yhrough Google:

Yes, if you take away the 'toss' it leaves you with hoselet. Round here we call them 'footsie'

gen2 I admire your doggedness - I'd want you on my side! Getting hoselet was inspired!
However my vote for 69 would be with smouse and "flip flop". You flip a coin and a flop implies a loss. The setter is more likely to know "flip flop" than "hoselet".

I only hope that I'm right!
