I am not asking for any answers but would be grateful for confirmation (or otherwise) that the following letters are correct for 3 down ... Y?U?G ?E?L?I?

Not yet able to finalise this answer, so would be grateful for this assistance.

Thanks (S)

Hi teacher ... I have the answer to 8 down but see that prospector has given you a lead.

I have just four answers to find but wonder if I have something wrong, as I am not able to find solutions. I do not require answers but again just confirmation (or otherwise) that following pattern of letters is correct:

36a R?????E?T
42a H?????P?
30d P??? P?R??
34d ???E?L??

Many thanks (S).
Thank you shaneystar2
sarumite -

36a) should start with letter C
check your spelling for 25d ... there are many alternatives!

42a is a swine! --> think of enjoying the music -- and 'tapping your heel' (look at you rletters and play around with that phrase)

I will let others have fun with the other 2 answers!!
ooops sorry I misread 38 for 36!!

36a) Nasty!! Your letters are correct

here are a few more R?C?R?E?T
hey teacher1 ... where is the thank you to me??

for Latin Maximx, I find this Site invaluable ...

http://www.yuni.com/library/latin.html

if you have a key word, then use the 'Find' facility in youe 'Edit? function.

cetera desunt is there!!

Thanks prospector, I will have another look at these this evening.
Samurite for 34D think of a colour as the main part of the word.
Question Author
Thanks ontarioice, this was a bird unknown to me!
re 40A: Is the setter being sarcastic or am I out in left field? Surely hoaxes and morality don't jibe?
and I suspect, to most of us ... anyway, I am no longer so green
ontarioice, I think that you may have lost the ball
Yes, I have lost the ball and I see now why. I am incorrect with the spelling of last word of 18 down. Taking that into consideration my 40A has to do with a certain month of the year and not morals at all.

Have finished now and grateful for last minute guidance.

Just a minor point - I have also put "Cetera Desunt" for 8d but each definition I looked at indicated " the rest is missing" rather than "are missing". Is this relevant in any way?
I could now finish up my right-hand corner and also the puzzle (said he hopefully) if someone would guide me re the timber for 14A. I have T?e?t?i????
Meantime off for lunch and then some shopping with SHMBO.
Question Author
Ontariochoice your "i" is incorrect it should be
T?E?T?E?R?E. Hope this helps (S).
Just posting this so I can find it easier later. Don't have much time to spend on this at present.
8down is CETERA DESUNT from latest Chambers Dictionary.

3d I assumed that it was not a direct quote but a description of the character Young Bellair who exited just before the said quote. Still obscure !
sarumite A quick look while madam applies her lipstick.
Thanks for the correction. I now have 14A.
sarumite .. I noticed that as well ... but cannot see that it is anything other than cetera desunt?
can anyone explain 30d) to me please; and also 40a)

thank you
