MM Link Words Solutions January [Week 2]
32 Answers
My four chosen Links are as follows:
Pitch PERFECT (or PERFECT Pitch)
Field MOUSE (or Field MICE)
CONS Table (a trick often used by MM)
Court ROOM (or Court ROOMS)
These alternatives are permitted in the Rules.
The "first-time" spotters did well to find some difficult Links. However, the second of the entries came from JimJools when they struck gold at 09.04 with Field MOUSE and earned a big bonus point. Four minutes later (and 8 entries on) came rogerr with a simple "tap in" from Court ROOM (was this just too obvious to be chosen?).
The initial rush calmed down (and the 2-minute rule put away for another week) and at 09.21 in came JRB to bowl a ball at the PERFECT Pitch (another bonus point gone). I felt sure that I could hold onto my sneaky last Link until (16 minutes later) on came the equally sneaky Magyar to correctly predict CONSTABLE. (Well done indeed)
These points aside, no one else scored two points (for two delayed "Hits") although 14 ABers scored single hits. Rather surprisingly, some predictions were
squandered by containing only three letters or even nine letters. All my chosen Links contain between four and eight letters! Some entrants kept their links in a sporting theme in spite of the warnings to avoid doing so.
All in all, a challenging Round with some sadly extending their run of ZERO scores. At the other extreme is the perverse Dustybun who wished to extend his
string of failures. He was finally brought tumbling down when he came head to head with the humble FIELDMOUSE!
The running totals will appear in detail (below after a short while). Let it be said that there has been ONE entrant who has reached FOUR points - or should I
say THEY have reached FOUR points. THEY are being chased by three others on THREE points.
More to follow - but the leaders have initials JJ.

I find myself hoping (fingers, toes, everything crossed) that we don't have fog on Saturday mornings and that our newspaper plane arrives here in Jersey on time. Still I can always lurk in the shrubbery - in good company!
Lovely to hear from you Pauline - you are still very much in my thoughts.

JRB - (Jersey's Resident Baffler) So we have yet another quasi-international gamester in our midst! Welcome! However, I don't follow the logic behind the newspaper plane, since we no longer rely on the DT!?
I thought I had enough to contend with having Dustybun on the books actually trying to fail! And doing a very good job of it, I must say! It's no good having Rules with Dusty Dee about!
[rogerr - :o) You don't start many postings, do you!]

Hi Crofter and fellow ABers. Just returned from an overnight stay far, far from civilisation - well, they didn't have an internet connection! - and of course rushed to find out link words, but alas, nothing but a zero awaited - Nil points, as they used to say on It's a knockout'. . Still, will look forward to joining the rest of you in the shrubbery next Saturday morning. Well done Jools, too.
A special hello to Pauline, nice to see your name in the responses. Thinking about you a lot.

Well done to everyone who took part in this week's competition and a big thank you to Crofter too, from one of the mean-looking bunch! It seems that good wishes are being sent to Pauline, and although I do not know the history I would like to add my good wishes as you can never have too many of them. All the best Pauline. xx
rogerr - I have been looking for one of your previous postings, so that I could guarantee getting a message back to you via such a posting. However, since the start of the year you have helped many people, but never once did you ask for help. In this respect, our two AB profiles are similar.
Did you know that there have been 80 sheets and 1600 postings since Old Years Night? During this run you continually "Give". So please "give" yourself a pat on the back! No more need be said!
See you on Saturday - prompt!
