MM Link Game Solutions January [Week 3]
32 Answers
My chosen Link Words for Week 3 were:
FULLER(S) (Earth)
(Fire) WALL
WOOD (Wind)
WHITE (Water)
There was the usual onrush during the period of time shortly after 9.00am with limited success this week. Clearly having a fixed starting time gives everyone a fair chance to get their entires in early. Surprisingly, it was my obscure FULLER'S Earth that was the first to fall when Christiana entered the contest as caller No. 7 (at 09.04).
The others brought their own drama with WHITE Water being predicted by TWO ABers with exactly the same time of 09.13am. In accordance with the rules, both
rogerr and JimJools pick up the bonus points for this "first" Hit! The remaining two words held out for another nine hours until a Canadian braved the cold to lodge his predictions of WOOD Wind and Fire
WALL. In one fell swoop, FOUR points fly over the pond!
No doubt Ont-ice was focused on the bitter cold thinking "That WIND is cold. I'll go and get some WOOD that I've piled up by the WALL and fix the FIRE!" When he lodged his link words he'll have strung together WOOD=WIND and FIRE=WALL in some sort of random fashion! I DID warn you to keep an eye on these tactical players!

No best answer has yet been selected by crofter. Once a best answer has been selected, it will be shown here.
For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.These two combined hits by Ont-ice give him 4 points making him the star of the round and bring his monthly total to 4 points! Yes, prior to this round, he had been kept out of the scoring
For this round, 2 points go to rogerr bringing her monthly total to an impressive 5 points.
However, outshining everyone - with a monthly total of 6 points are JimJools who still hold onto pole position.
CHEERS ALL ROUND!!!!

He's in shock and will need some Fire Water to bring him around and not the Watered Down stuff mentioned in his predictions.
Watch out Jools we're breathing down your neck.
Thanks once again to Crofter for all your efforts and thanks to all the other contestants for making this a fun game to play.
I'll away now and pour his well-deserved reward.

That's a good question, jan - and one that was suggested by your comments this morning before you went off to work.
It should be made known that my workload on Mondays will be greatly increased starting from tomorrow. Whereas I am prepared to spend 4+ hours over the last 48 hours (that is, over the weekend), it is physically impossible for me to release that sort of time when the link words are not available until Monday morning.
The views of other ABers would be welcome on this issue. I know that certain views were expressed earlier, but jan may well have missed them.

Thanks once again Crofter, and congratulations (again!) JimJools - this could get to be a habit!.
I'm quite happy to continue with the present system, at least for a while until we see how things settle down with the Herculis. I found the words from the Herculis links somewhat daunting and with less 'fun' possibilities than Crofters this week but, of course, it is early days.
I think you do an amazing job Crofter and would rather continue with that, personally, than lose your scoring and humorous imput. Hope these comments help.

its no good crofter you will need to get a new job, one that lets you have Mondays off as well as the weekend. Do they not understand how much we all need you here we will have a whip round to pay for you to stay at home on Mondays to do the spreadsheets.
On a serious note I am happy to stick with the majority vote of carrying on as we are if you are happy too.
thanks again

We agree with Christiana. Your humour, Crofter, makes it so much nicer 'cos it gives it the 'personal' touch.
Of course, as others have already said, it is entirely your decision to make.
Your choices for the MM game have been excellent - even when we scored great big zeros we still thought the choices were the best.
Soooo! Whatever you decide we'll be by your side. (Whoops, that sounds like a wanabe poet).

Congratulations to JimJools, rogerr, Ont-ice and Christiana for their scintillating performances this week .. although I am more than a little concerned that Ont-ice has forsaken the " Freefall Club" for pastures new !
Thanks again crofter for your imaginative dissertation, and sterling efforts with the scoring system ... (are you sure I didn't forecast all 4 correctly this week?) .. oh well can only dream!
Agree we should stick with current system for time being.
Cheers (S) ☺

We all realise that our game depends on you crofter. I rather like the idea of you setting the questions each week and trying to second guess you. I know that the original puzzle has now been resumed, but it has got more friendly since you have taken it on board. As you know what the answers are it must be much easier for you to sort the results, so my vote is to stay as we are.
I think we certainly want to see how the new herculis settles in. As you know, I always come late to the puzzle and try to find 4 new combinations. When you ( and hopefully your successor ) choose the link words there are always a reasonable number of viable alternatives still available to me, but I was really struggling today to find links for herculis that hadn't already been spoken for.
Poor girl has been very much thrown in at the deep end and is on a very steep learning curve. Let's see how she manages it before we abandon your game.
But most importantly you are the person you does the work, and I don't think we should ask you to do more than you are happy to do. It sounds as if Monday duties would make the game no fun for you, and we don't want that to happen!
