My chosen Link Words for Week 3 were:

FULLER(S) (Earth)
(Fire) WALL
WOOD (Wind)
WHITE (Water)

There was the usual onrush during the period of time shortly after 9.00am with limited success this week. Clearly having a fixed starting time gives everyone a fair chance to get their entires in early. Surprisingly, it was my obscure FULLER'S Earth that was the first to fall when Christiana entered the contest as caller No. 7 (at 09.04).

The others brought their own drama with WHITE Water being predicted by TWO ABers with exactly the same time of 09.13am. In accordance with the rules, both
rogerr and JimJools pick up the bonus points for this "first" Hit! The remaining two words held out for another nine hours until a Canadian braved the cold to lodge his predictions of WOOD Wind and Fire
WALL. In one fell swoop, FOUR points fly over the pond!

No doubt Ont-ice was focused on the bitter cold thinking "That WIND is cold. I'll go and get some WOOD that I've piled up by the WALL and fix the FIRE!" When he lodged his link words he'll have strung together WOOD=WIND and FIRE=WALL in some sort of random fashion! I DID warn you to keep an eye on these tactical players!

Sarumite One swallow does not make a summer and one win does not cancel our membership in the club. No doubt, we'll be back cap in hand if jools keeps on scoring high.
Congratulations to the leaders --- again !
Even with all the skulduggery in the shrubbery the early birds do not always get the worms !
In the run up to this bit of fun in November (?) I had an honourable mention, but since then have scored precisely zero -- but I seem to have some similar company.
I am more than happy to stay with the status quo if crofter is. As others have said it is good to enjoy his particular repartee and wit (although it was still there with the usual MM competition).

Oh happy band of gamesters,

My comments on the current dilemma are available at the end of the posting given below:

Congratulations to patchett who had 3 hits out of 4 in the DT version of our MM Game (but their predictions were not as open-ended as ours).

The bottom line is that our MM version will continue as long as there is a demand for it!

JimJools and rogerr better get thinking about a list for February (should they win). If they wish, winners can forward their choices of words to me and I'll do the rest!
There clearly seems to be a demand for the MM game. I agree that if this fits in around your availabilty Crofter, then we should leave it as it is for now.
Mind you..won't make any difference to my paltry efforts!

I think you are absolutey correct, Pauline, when you say that there is a demand for the MM Links Game in its current format. However, its obvious appeal goes beyond scoring points. I could name many entrants who rejoice in their low scores and make light of it! We all welcome the bonhommie and social interaction.

Personally, I look forward to seeing what links the next setter comes up with! In a few months' time, my situation at work is likely to change radically (and for the better). In the meantime, I suggest than we monitor the KM Link Words with a light touch, in which we search only for the perfect score of 4 out of 4. This should continue in parallel with our newly developed MM Links Game until one closes through natural selection.

As one ABer said, we should not close our own game until we have checked the standard of the KM Links Game. As another has pointed out, we have the luxury of having TWO link games on the go at the same time for the next month (at least).

Thank you for your opinion, Pauline (which is as always valued) - particularly when there appears to be an impasse.

We should be celebrating the success of JimJools and rogerr, Congratulations indeed!

If either of you head the league table at this point next week, are you "up for" setting the link words throughout February - singly or shared (two weeks each) . Please let your feelings be known on this matter as we will need plans in place to cover the whole of next month!.
Are you being sarcastic about me heading the League table!..we both know that's a joke.
JimJools and rogerr are doing brill!..congrats to them.

I feel for KM as she has had a big act to follow, and it was incredibly brave of her. Also it was probably quite a challenge carrying it on.
I think we should watch how hers progress. This week would have been difficult to pick many alternatives for some.

I also think, as your MM Link game suits a lot of people, and mainly your schedule..it should carry on for now.
Also it would give the winners the chance to challenge us all, with their selecctions, which I think people would like to do.

If people want to pick up the KM links, the scoring rules for that could be simpler as you said, and then somebody else might score it for everyone. Can't offer to help there at moment, unfortunately, due to family committments.

I do think your MM Link has generated more fun, and is finished at a good time for most people. The results can be seen Sunday night, while most people might be around.

Kind regards Crofter...and thanks for EVERYTHING!
Love Pauline xx
P.S. Come the glorious day I see my name up there amongst the leaders! Think I will stick at my obvious attempts to loose like one of your other regulars! We like to be different!
Hi crofter - >b<IF>/b< I should still be in the pole postition next week and it is a big - >b<IF>/b< - I would love to have a go at setting the links for February. But lets see what happens next week first. It is very tight up here at the top and the scrum in the shrubbery is getting worse each week. :-)
What happened to the bold (IF) it didn't work what did I do wrong?
IF Got it I did the arrows round the wrong way. :-/
Thanks for the kind words folks. Yes I would have a go at setting the linkwords, but crofter would be a hard act to follow.
However "snowballs" and "hell" spring to mind so I won't be holding my breath.

JimJools and rogerr, Perhaps we should try to sort things out off-line in order to be prepared for whatever happens next week.

If you agree then you should be able to contact me on the following e-mail address: <[email protected]>
Have sent a test message via hotmail, which I have just set up. Please let me know on here if you haven't rec. it, and I will use my usual email(which is so much easier)
