Not asking for answers, just confirmation on my word patterns for final three clues, as I am now going round in circles! ... I would be really grateful for confirmation only (or otherwise) of the following :-

7a M?S?S ?O?T

40a A???S ?O?P

30d D?M???A?T

Finally, I was confident of my answers for 9d and 15a but where they intersect I have "a" for 15a and "u" for 9d. Is there perhaps an alternative spelling for either answer, if so could somebody please point me in the right direction. Many thanks (S) ;o)

back again - I thought 38d was 'humped' but now have an 'o' there instead - perhaps it's 'pooped' - I know I would be !!

and just to confirm 1a for the last word I've put 'seat' - or should this be something else

thanks to all S

ok I've answered my one question re 38d. I did the same as Ont-ice did and I haven't heard that one before either and I have the advantage [????] of living here !!
Seekeerz. You are correct re 1A. Last word is seat.
Pantheon. You mention that you had no reference books in the Middle East. May I ask if you are serving with the military? Feel free to tell me to mind my business if you don't care to answer.

thanks Ont-ice

Good morning all, pleased to see that you have been busy whilst I've been in the land of nod !

Thanks Pantheon for Apres Coup .. I have found the following site which indicates " after the event " so will go with that.

http://www.linternaute.com/dictionnaire/fr/def inition/apres-coup/

I had initially toyed with moses boat but couldn't find any direct links with Lowell. However, it is a craft that relates to that time period, so will go with it.

Thank you all for "discussion" ... that's me finalised now, but quite happy to help out if required. What a pity there's not a generalist every week!! (S)

Ont-ice

I find it better not to give out personal info on this site.
Pantheon:
No offence taken. Hope to work with you again on the site.
O-Ice.
PS. Just where did you find the Moses Boat?
Where did anyone find the Moses Boat? It was the first word that came to my mind for that clue, but all I could find when searching were references to cradles, and Moses.

Hi Ont-ice ... a very good morning to you, although I've just finished lunch! Moses boat is mentioned in the following link, you'll find in in the paragraph before the sub heading
" Comparisons".
Like you, I considered this from the outset, but could find no direct reference to fit the clue.
Question Author
Thank you sarumite re the Moses Boat. I also bookmarked the site you gave me re 40A as I thought it seemed a good site to have access to.
Off now to brave the icy blasts of winter. Will be home in about 4 hours or so.
Bi for now.
Hi all, I hope you don't mind me joining in. I have most of the puzzle finished now, but I am struggling on different ones to you, apart from 43a. Has any one got any hints for 22d & 37d please.
Question Author
Hi Jools ... good to see you, thanks for letting us use your thread yesterday!

22d is a latin phrase commencing Et id (if you want the rest I am quite happy to oblige)

37d Look for a poem by Murrell with the word "conquering" in title and you then need the words before and after this word.

Hope this helps, I'm off to dinner now but will look in again afterwards to check on progress.

good luck (S)
Question Author
Jools ... don't want to mislead you it is actually a quotation by Thomas Morell (not a poem).
Down to the last one - 43a I just can't get it - all I seem to find is Seagrape but that doesn't fit - I have G-i-e-r-e.

Just popping out for Half an hour so look back then. Jools
Jools: Try the alternative spelling for 39D which will give you an E where you have an i. That should help you out.
Jimjools,

It's grapetree ; and the scythe handle is sneath
ulysses100. I think from reading jimjools posting that he/she only wanted hints.
I do prefer to do the research myself where posible but thanks ulysses. I was getting frustrated with it.

Thanks O-ice, hows your weather over there? Still cold?
