Your "balsa wood" was logged at 8.02am and followed at 8.04am by wickedtongue's entry. Since they are logged two minutes apart they are deemed equivalent. Each attracts a bonus point for a correct hit.
There was some debate at the time and it was decided that two minutes was OK, but to exend this to three minutes was not! The idea was that the entries could be deemed to be independent up to a two-minute interval, but not beyond.
I hope that this clarifies the reasoning behind the scoring in this instance.

Good Morning, Wickedtongue and Congratulations.
Don't know how you do it and I suppose you're not about to tell.
We wasted too much time looking for an alternative to the wood (balsa) thinking it too obvious. But as you've proven - the obvious can be the answer. But we'd never have guessed pudding stone or amberjack. Not in a million.
Good luck to you. Are you trying for the perfect ten next week again????

Thank-you all for your kind words.im still in a state of shock.
started crossword when i got to work soon realised i had 3 links correct but was struggling on the W clement clue.
rang my partner Sue to check it out for me
it looked like answer was Stone but it wasn't in my dictionary.
as soon as Sue confirmed the answer i went into wild excitement.
The secret of my success this week was getting up earlier and knowing what the link words were well before being posted on site.
will be going for another 4 out 4 again next week

The "Link" veterans will realise just who ShamrockBlue is and the importance of his appearance on this very special occasion! I have been trying to re-establish e-mail contact with him for some weeks, now but to no avail! I was beginning to fear the worst!
The seal of approval from the creator of the AB Links Game is the crowning glory! Nice to hear from you, matey.
I hope all is well with you - and that you endorse how the Game has progressed, nutured by the same Crazy Crowd as before and many more of similar ilk. We could provide the full cast of "And One flew over the Cuckoo's Nest" several times over! :o)
