Two remaining across clues - some thoughts also!!!

30a) Farmer tended champion King Edward (7)
(Edward Champion/ Stephen King? or
something to do with potatoes?)

38a) Strong drink arrived before food, ending in talk (6)
(Rum / Gin etc before food = talk?)

{ Although mainly cryptic, two answers in the whole puzzle are proper nouns! }

why is 'before food' = ac?

novalis -
I responded to your post last night ..... have you worked outthe last words of the instruction?

I have all the starting letters`possible for words going into 1d) chateaubriand - which is now entered as CTBUAHAIRAEND ... so first and lat letters entered normally (C at start and D at end) .... jumbled letters between these two 'set letters'.

[can detect the word 'hair' within the jumbled letters?

Not seeing the pattern at the moment ....

Do you?

hi novalis .... just seen your comment on earlier thread --- so it is 'change of heart'!

can you tell me how you worked out that these three words?
AC is the accepted abbreviation for ante cibum in medical prescriptions.

AC take before food.

another xword nuance to remember!
Managed to re-arrange ( jumble ) many of the answers which I had and looked across diagonals ( very often the place for words/phrases to be highlighted. ) Had to be "change of heart" because
a - it's the only thing which woulsd make sense
b - the "heart" ( i.e. all but the first and last letters ) of each answer is "changed" ( junbled).
Hope that helps. Have posted all your missing down answers on your other message page.
Best wishes.

If you get this twice apologies. Submit button didn't seem to respond.
Had all the answers ( have posted all your missing down answers on your other message about ev 748 ) and fitted them in logically ( trial and error!).
To find "change of heart" I looked across the diagonals ( it's usual to put hidden wods/phrases there.
