My Cat

I have a 6 mth old black cat. I feed her, pat her, talk to her, try to play with her, but she doesn't want anything to do with me. She only likes my male flatmate. She can't get enough of him. She sleeps with him and if his bedroom door is closed she waits outside it. She sits on his knee and purrs and dribbles, but not with me. I do have 2 other cats, one female and the other male, they are about 10-12 years old. THEY love me! I give them all the same amout of attention. Can anyone let me know why the black cat won't have anything to do with me? Surely I'm the juicey oyster as I feed her etc?

Maybe you're trying too hard? I am a 'dog' person and don't naturally gravitate to cats although I don't dislike them. They seem to find this a challenge and crawl all over me looking for attention. Make the cat come to you by ignoring her.

what apricot said. i hate cats and they're all over me like a rash when I'm in the same room. I think they can sense that you don't like them and they like the challenge. Cats also seem to be more fickle than dogs and just do their own thing rather than responding to commands.

Our cat is also fremale and is friendly with me and sits on my knee etc, but is not so friendly with my girlfriend. I think it is to do with the fact my girlfriend constantly wants to play with the cat, pick it up and make it do stuff. The cat seems to get fed up and prefers to sit with me where it doesn't get bothered. Also is the 6 month old cat friends with the 2 older cats? If not, it might not like you because it sees you with the other cats.

I love cats but they are funny buggers - they like who they like and thats it. My male kitty only likes my boyfriend and although he will let me stroke him he wont let me pick him up or sit on my lap.
