Can someone please guide me ... I want to buy a digital set top box (mainly to atch the Rugby World Cup on at the moment) SOmeone said get a Freeview box (as some of the porgrammes are on ITV4) However, I have read that if you have a Freeview box, you cannot record one channel whilst watching another. Is this true? Secondly, someone else said get a "Top Up TV" box - far more expensive than a Freeview box Having had a look at the spec and site for the Top Up TV box, I think that this is more what I want than a freeview box. HOWEVER, I DO NOT want to take out a subscription to Top up TV (10 per month). Can I buy this box (which is basically a PVR and digital receiver inone box) and not subscribe to the (extra) facilities on offer? All I want is a digital receiver that can receive digital TV and allow me to record one channel whilst watching another. Any suggestions please?
Yes it is true that most freeview boxes only get the one channel, and many people are going to find this out the hard way in time, but by paying more you can get boxes with two recievers and/or (as I have) a hard disc recorder built in too. I bought a Daewoo from Misco which has a Massive hard drive and I think it's the dogs whatsits.
I recommend the Humax PVR 9200 - just as Dog says about his fave, huge hard drive and two separate tuners. If you're out you can also record two channels simultaneously. Looks good and is very quiet too. Find reviews online.
I have got 2 TVs that have Freeview built in - so no need for boxes. The downside is that to video it you have to leave the TV on - on the right channel - then set your video to AV2. Bit of a pain when trying to video The Mighty Boosh that is on around 11.30 at night!
