Somewhat cryptically, it should be said, in which year was the (Aintree) Grand National won by a quarter of a mile?

Isn't it a bit early to be asking for answers - there's moire than a month to go before the deadline for this excellent quiz?

In fact I have been grappling with this question for a few weeks now. I thought perhaps quarter of a mile may be an anagram of the winning horse but checked and it appears not. I am just intrigued as to what the answer could be.
A quarter of a mile equals two Furlongs .
So there's no reason why you can't give your "grey cells" a bit more work - as I said over a month to go.

As for being intrigued - I presume you'll still use the answer when someone tells you and claim it for yourself on your answersheet?
detective - please also remember that the quizsetter on GBQ has asked repeatedly that people do not ask for answers on here. It really does spoil one of the best postal quizzes around.
