KM Links Game - February week 2 Results
23 Answers
Another Monday morning has rolled around and we are awaiting today's link words - one of the trusty and reliable
early risers will be posting them shortly for the completion of this weekends game.
Just to while away the time - very glad to hear from ulysses100 that it was his computer keeping him from the revelry and nothing more sinister. We do take them for granted most of the time, but when the proverbial hits the fan, it's usually major spending time.
And for Prescott - I don't actually get to see the Crossword until Jools gets an opportunity to 'post' it to me so I'm 'winging it' when I post my entry and keeping fingers crossed that my answer isn't part of the original question, but then, I think a few of us haven't seen the puzzle when we post - paper deliveries being what they are. I just hope that all my reliable posters don't all go awol at the same time. Hope that clarifies things for you.
Ok, that's me for a bit, I will return S

Have to admit I'm not certain of best pairing of copper and brass, but have gone for the following .. perhaps others may have a view??
Iceland SPAR
Compact DISC
COPPER Plate
Nickel BRASS
See you later .... (S)

and now to really confuse us - we've had Copper Plate and Copper Nickel in the entries but Brass didn't get a look-in.
Executive Decision time - for the purposes of our game I shall mark both as correct and distribute points accordingly, as joto puts it, we have no idea which Kate wants with which [ do we ever ??] and hope everyone's happy with that - ok guys ???
I go right along with your Executive Decision so far as our game goes, Steff.
But this still leaves us with the problem of finding Kate's well-known word or phrase. Copper plate or brass plate, either would be OK. But I can't find any well-known match for nickel. Could one be 'down to one's last brass nickel', like one's 'last brass farthing'?

morning to you AQ - I guess I'm lucky, that's a dilemma I don't have to worry about, but I think I was thinking of brass farthing when I suggested brass nickel, if you follow my logic !!
I know, what logic ?? women don't think, let alone have logic !!!
will now go and type up results, and leave you sitting on the horns - ouch !!
Another mad scramble at commencement of play saw bonus points for Iceland Spar and Compact Disc flying around, particularly for DizzyLizzie who managed to snare both answers for four points, while slaney, sarumite & jan1956 all scored two bonus points.
Then we encountered something of a dilemma - not being certain which match Kate has in mind - either Copper Plate or Copper Nickel, I decided to score both as correct so Jools of JimJools & Prescott have both scored two bonus points for their respective answers, however no-one opted for Brass anything, so that's that, then.
Aquagility, cliffyg, Christiana, chriss & eccles all scored two points each, for good guesses and another 20 all scored one point.
So the Leader Board looks like this -
6 points: DizzyLizzie, slaney & Christiana.
5 points: joto & london-lassy.
4 points: jan1956, ladyalex, chriss, eccles &
AllyLally
Congratulations all, well done and remember, there's two more weeks to make that killing run, so good luck S
Not really relevant to the awarding of points, however I have noticed that KM uses quite a lot of Americanism's in her answers to clues - probably as a result of using Wikipedia or american crossword solver/construction software.
My knowledge of chemistry stopped at O level, but from memory a penny (english slang= copper) and a nickel (american slang = penny) were originally made from copper nickel and now, additionally, with zinc.
We'll see when the solutions are published.
