MM Links April [Week 3]
</b Good Morning all AB-Linkers (and Good Bye Gremlins)! This is Lady Lysander > once again with the MM Challenge for Week 3.
Preparations are already in hand for our village's 137th show to be held in the grounds of Warkworth Castle. Originally, it was a motte and bailey stronghold in the Middle Ages but it was updated by the Percy family, which includes Harry Hotspur (as mentioned in Shakespeare's Henry IV).
The excitement really begins with the arrival of the marquees and tents on Friday. One large marquee houses the horticultural entries and another the industrial entries (which covers cooking, baking and handicrafts). Several ladies enter fifty or more cakes and produce. I don't know where they get the time, energy or space.
A few years ago, my Dundee cake was disqualified because it measured a quarter of an inch shorter than stated in the schedule. My family thought this was a huge joke and offered to buy me a new baking tin for Christmas!
Dancers, a brass band and a magician provide entertainment along with many stalls selling various crafts and the children have a fancy dress competition. Many local village shows have had to close down due to lack of funds or willing organisers, but thankfully ours continues to thrive and attracts visitors from all corners of the globe.
